One of the WeTransfer website owners Damian came to collect his WeTransfer Foffa bike and we got the chance to ask him a few questions.

1. In a city dedicated to bikes why choose a Foffa Prima in Amsterdam? Because you don't want to look the same as everyone else right. Until now I haven't seen another Foffa in Amsterdam.

2. How did you hear about Foffa Bikes. Through my old friend the infamous Tyson Sadlo.

3. Is designing your own bike important to you? Yep, again everyone wants to at least feel as though they are a little individual and put their mark in some way on what they own.

4. What do you use your bike for? Everything. Commuting, going between meetings, going out. You name it.

5. How does it feel to ride a Foffa Bike? It feels like riding on a silk purse.

6. What inspires you? Hunger and hungry people. Nothing is more inspirational than meeting, reading or seeing hungry people making stuff happen, with nothing more than motivation.

[...]

Team Sky cyclist Alex Dowsett came to collect his custom Foffa bike and we got the chance to ask him a few questions.

1. Why choose a Foffa Prima to get around on? It's nice to be able to ride a bike for pleasure as well as training, I wanted something individual and cool and something that could reflect my roots and beliefs as well, foffa catered for all of my needs in what turned out to be a stunning bike!

2. How did you hear about Foffa Bikes? After winning the Smithfield nocturne last year I entered the competition to design my own bike, I spent hours on the website coming up with different ideas.

3. Is designing your own bike important to you? Very, we live in a world where there is becoming decreasingly less individuality, have something bespoke and custom to my own specifications was a real joy to have the opportunity to create.

4.
Foffa Bikes is going to exhibit at the Vulpine Cycling Fete on the 4th of June.

The venue, Balham Bowls Club, is a vintage-chic British pub/bar/restaurant/venue with retro-chic wood paneled walls and ironic doilies.
It is 2 minutes walk from Balham Northern Line Tube and mainline rail, is on a Cycle Super Highway and is a very pleasant and accessible ride via Richmond Park, Battersea Park and Clapham Common.

The event is free, and welcoming of all cyclists, whatever their creed, interest or ability.

Add in bunting, cake stalls, tea, coffee, beer garden, BBQ, artists and a host of entertainment including live graffiti from The Toaster and Roller Racing for all ages from Rollapaluza and you've got a great way for everyone to celebrate design, entrepreneurialism and cycling.

We hope to see you there!

Full Name: EMMA WHITE

Name of Bike Concept: Nostalgia

Brief description of the motivation & reason for the design:
Riding a bike is, for me a very nostalgic experience, it conjures up memories of my childhood where as a family we would go off on a bike ride for the whole day. A rucksack held our water, picnic and snacks; it was an all day event. I wanted to capture that playful, fun nostalgia and make it relevant to the 23 year old me and I wanted my concept to harmonise with the existing character of the bike. As riding a bike brings so many memories I wanted the design to be a memory, that hazy, gorgeous rose-tinted view of the past that a memory gives you. I want that to be encapsulated in my design. Hopefully it is joyful, soft and evocative.

Few people really know what this means, but it takes influences from the blacks and whites of sci-fi comics dating back to the 1930s, the graphic shadows of 1940s noir cinema, the bloody reds of Sin City and LA Noire and the twisted storytelling from a graphic novel published in 2010 called Like Mother Like Daughter an epic tale of deceit, paranoia and cloned foetuses, written by BJ Fox and Christopher Godfree. The graphics appearing on the frame itself are taken from a selection of cells from the aforementioned five-page comic. Particular emphasis has been given to the eyes that appear in the illustrations. It is as though the bike is observing those who observe it. For 2011, however, Fahrtwind Berlin takes up a more serious challenge! A group ride all the way from Berlin to Paris. First and foremost this ride is about enjoying cycling. But like at all our events we will bring a whole range of different cyclists together to accomplish this long distance ride. We will be over ten riders of different age, bikes and walks of life. Along the way, affiliated cyclists from other cities will join us. A support vehicle carries our luggage, so that we can concentrate on what we like most: Cycling. En route we will camp or sleep at bike friends. All this will be captured o [...]
