Its show time again for Foffa bikes. Weve kicked off January in style with the London Bike Show, held at the prestigious London Excel Centre.

Theres nothing more invigorating than getting out there and talking to people who are as passionate about bikes as we are. As a bike brand you can get lost in the nuts and bolts (excuse the pun) of everyday business running and can lose sight of all the exciting things happening in the cycle world. Bike shows are that chance for everyone to geek out and talk to like-minded folk about all things on two wheels.

Theres always a real buzz in the shop when we start preparing display bikes for shows as theyre always something a little bit extra special. We all get involved in choosing the bike builds for shows and usually reach mutual agreement on what works...and when agreement is not possible we battle it out with big sticks and sometimes bike tools. The response was brilliant, especially on our new bike builder and our new range of designer stickers.

We also got the chance to have a good chat with Keith, the main man at Reynolds. He is a very friendly and approachable guy and was kind enough to allow us to take a picture of him with Dani next to our geared range made of Columbus tubing:)




We also got the chance to have a good chat with some of the guys in the industry like Ted from Ted James Design, John from 14 Bike, Jamie from Fresh Tripe and the guys at Tokyo Fixed, and were surprised to see how they are all very decent people with a passion for what they do. Dani also challenged Tokyo Fixed manager Andy to a roller race and won! We are finally back from the London Bike Show and very pleased with the results. It has been an intense 4 days and we managed not to lose our voice as much as the NEC last year so definitely a big improvement there! The Gears and Ciao had a great feedback and we had a lot of interest from other bike shops and brands too.

We cheekily wheeled one of our bikes to the Boat Show at the other side of the Excel and got a lot of attention, especially when we parked our bike next some of the luxury cars by the boats:)

We are finally back from the NEC Cycle Show and I must admit it certainly did exceed our expectations! It was such a success that we booked ourselves for next year already!

The trade day was incredibly busy, with quite a few shops interested in stocking our bikes, and the public days gave us a lot of encouraging feedback too!

We did so much talking that Tyson lost his voice from day 2!
No pressure for our new addition Andy who jumped in the deep end with the biggest cycle show in the UK!
We had a few of our bikes on the test track and they were in great demand!
We also got the chance to talk to some of the big guys at Condor, Reynolds, Campagnolo and other very influential members of the industry and we were surprised to notice that everyone we spoke to was very approachable and respectful.

Riding a bike is, for me a very nostalgic experience, it conjures up memories of my childhood where as a family we would go off on a bike ride for the whole day. A rucksack held our water, picnic and snacks; it was an all day event. I wanted to capture that playful, fun nostalgia and make it relevant to the 23 year old me and I wanted my concept to harmonise with the existing character of the bike. As riding a bike brings so many memories I wanted the design to be a memory, that hazy, gorgeous rose-tinted view of the past that a memory gives you. I want that to be encapsulated in my design. Hopefully it is joyful, soft and evocative.

East London has fast become the mecca for fixed gear and single speed bikes within the UK, with every corner, lamp post and railing becoming a
popular parking place. With each bike being different from the next, with
personalistion being key.
To celebrate this I am using the Birds of Britain illustration style as inspiration, but rather than birds its the Bikes of Britain.
What will it look like? Everypart of the frame will be covered with different single speed and fixed gear bikes found around Britain.
Alternatively this could be a celebration of Foffa bikes, every design created by Foffa could be printed on the the frame.
Below is an example of how it would look across the cross bar.
Each bike will have a name and where it was seen.

My favourite hiphop group of all time is A Tribe Called Quest. I travel all over the world to see them perform when I can, (this year I went to New York to see Q Tip) and I always try to see them whenever they come to Europe. My favourite album of theirs is The Low End Theory which was released in 1991. That album cover featured a red and green character... and that album reminds me of when summers where all about music and riding round on my bike and ice cream. That is the main inspiration for the bike, and A Tribe Called Quest represents having a free spirit, love and peace through their music

Brief description of the motivation & reason for the design:
A fascination with detective plots combined with an interest in sci-fi comic-writing has led me to a concept I am calling Sci-Fi Noir. Few people really know what this means, but it takes influences from the blacks and whites of sci-fi comics dating back to the 1930s, the graphic shadows of 1940s noir cinema, the bloody reds of Sin City and LA Noire and the twisted storytelling from a graphic novel published in 2010 called Like Mother Like Daughter an epic tale of deceit, paranoia and cloned foetuses, written by BJ Fox and Christopher Godfree. The graphics appearing on the frame itself are taken from a selection of cells from the aforementioned five-page comic. Particular emphasis has been given to the eyes that appear in the illustrations. It is as though the bike is observing those who observe it. A FOFFA is the ultimate Airfix model; parts are painted and carefully assembled to create the whole.
The design pays homage to this, referencing the iconic Airfix model of The Spitfire. I chose drop handles and would put the saddle as far back as possible, so the rider has to lean into the handlebars, like a gunner. (However, purely for aesthetics, I may opt for flats)
There are definitely some great opportunities for puns here, flying/bombing through the streets, but I fear using them may sway your creative judgment.

When I was growing up I used to love the Global Hypercolour heat reactive T-shirts. Now Id like to apply that technology to a Foffa frame. Here colours are applied to the bike along with an overcoat of heat reactive paint. When heat is applied to the overcoat it becomes clear, revealing the colours underneath.

Wed be able to see when a bike had been recently ridden, or if anyone had touched it. It also says something about Foffas hands on approach.

Finally the selfless teamwork of the 8 riders, including the epic final lap of 10Km at 50Kph by Wiggins, set up Cav for what he does better than anyone else: Finish.
My bike is a celebration of the team victory.

The frame of this bike is covered with the reflective material used on road signs and high vis jackets thus creating a totally reflective bike thus creating the safest bike in the world thus meaning there is less chance of daddy being knocked off and killed thus meaning my children dont grow up not knowing their father. Daddy on board is written in childs writing on the top bar and there is a small flower on the front forks. I questioned the flower myself but apparently its important to the children.

First idea came from original Courier fixie bikes usually look old and well-used and this is where the fixie rage blossomed from. I want to create a bike that paid homage to the messengers bikes; to create a bike that looked old and well-used with chips and peeling paint etc but actually on close inspection, is a new bike. For the actual look I was inspired by an old Raleigh bike my 2 brothers, my sister and I all learnt to ride on and my Dad still has in the garage. Also, I love William Egglestons bike photo (both included on mood board).

It is inspired by Londons ghost bikes that are painted white and left at the scene of a cyclists death. Blood on the Streets pays homage to those of us who die on the capitals streets every year doing what we love. The victims will not be forgotten and we shall not be deterred.

The bike is all white like the ghost bikes with the exception that the brand name has been replaced by In Memoriam, the tyres are red from the blood on the streets and there is a small trickle of fresh blood on the frame.

In London the typical commuter doesnt have a very fun journey to work and its generally a time they want to forget once theyve reached their destination. 

I wanted to make a bike that allowed people to share a happy thought. So whilst Im riding it to work, the messages left on it would make people smile giving them a better start to the day. 

In order for this to happen, Id like my bike to be coated in blackboard paint or have a blackboard sticker wrapped around it. A pack of chalk would be attached to the handlebars, for people to write their sunny sentence.

Brief description of the motivation & reason for the design:
When you ride a bike it becomes an extension of your body. It responds to your commands.

So the design is an attempt to show that connection. I bought a poster of the human body that showed the muscles, ligaments and bones. Scanned it in and found a section of it that would make the frame look like an extension of a limb.

From a distance the bike would look red/white/pink but on closer inspection you will be able to see the individual muscles and ligaments.

If the sticker could also be slightly raised it would be something curious to touch too.
The tyres and chain are pink to keep the colour palette the same.

We have been discussing a design challenge with huge advertising agency JWT for some time and we finally went to their London HQ in Knightbridge on Wednesday to announce the competition and we got a great feedback from it.

The creatives at JWT will be submitting their designs and the judges (Graham Wood and Christiano Neves from JWT, Simon Taylor from Tomato, Dani Foffa and Patrick Burgoyne Editor of Creative Review) will announce the winners around the 12th of October.

We have created a JWT category on this blog where all the submissions will be uploaded for the judges to evaluate, so watch this spot as we are expecting a lot of interesting as well as some unusual designs!

The migration to the new shop has finally been completed!

It has been a very busy last month with our sales, talking to a few experts to plan for the new Foffa models (yes, we are going to add gears to our range!), discussing a few projects with ASOS.com, Rollapaluza and some of the biggest advertising agencies around here, so watch this spot!

A fantastic community ride with hundreds of friendly cyclists; each doing their bit to promote cycling in London. This year has seen a rise in numbers and a few people even bring sound systems to keep the party vibe going.

presentation of his plans for the next 12 months, including a non-stop race
across America, several non-stop mountain bike adventures in the UK and a

Kicking off from 16:00 the event will see races such as the Brooks Penny Farthing Sprint, Kansi Folding Bike Race, Elite Womens Criterium and the Schwalbe Fixed Gear Longest Skid through out the night.



Its a completely free and diverse event catering for all levels of interest in Cycling. We recommend to get there early to get a good spot!

We are also gonna have a stand there for those that want to take our bikes for a spin so come and say hello!

It is the first complete history of Italian cycling available in English and covers everything chronologically since the first ever Giro in 1909.

The history of cycling in Italy is fascinating with entries in the book covering how cycling sparked political rows, changed the language, nearly caused a civil war and even accounts of the first ever female competitor and the Pope shouting the name of a Giro competitor in elation from his balcony!

Not only its cheaper, faster and more environmental-friendly than anything else, but bike riding is a great way to integrate daily needs and pleasure with keeping fit and experiencing that lovely rush of Endorphins (the runners high) released in our system during workouts.

Its been over 4 years since the very first bike was sold from my tiny flat and I must admit sometimes I still struggle to believe how this passion for bikes has changed my life completely.

Needless to say it hasnt always been easy, but the journey has been amazing so far. The cycling industry is full of great people, the effort is slowly paying back and I have no doubt that if you have a passion for what you believe in then no job can be too hard.
